Danil "Dendi" Ishutin is a Ukrainian Dota 2 player currently playing for Natus Vincere.

Biography

Dendi has had a very successful career in Dota 2 and has always been a big face in Western Dota. Currently in the solo mid position for Natus_Vincere, Dendi has been in all 3 The International finals, becoming a champion in the first and a runner-up in the second and third renditions. Some of his best heroes include Invoker, Puck and the famous "Dendi Pudge", all heroes having a skillshot of some sort. Dendi grew up in Lviv, a city in western Ukraine, he attended a music school for 5 years and found his passion for computer games by watching his older brother play.[1]

WarCraft 3: DotA Career

Dendi's DotA career started with his first team, Wolker.Gaming in 2008 and later joined Kingsurf International with Goblak, Axypa and Azen.[2] Later that year he left Kingsurf to join DTS.Chatrix with his team mates Goblak and Axypa. Next year, Dendi slalomed between those two teams as he rejoined Kingsurf in 2009[3] only to return to DTS.Chatrix some months later.

By the end of 2009, Dendi was known as one of the strongest gankers in the game and among Europe's best players and 2010 was very strong for him. He placed second at ESWC 2010 losing only to EHOME and later traveled to China to take third place in WDC. After WDC, Dendi decided to leave DTS together with team-mate ArtStyle and joined XBOCT, Axypa and Goblak in the Ukrainian team Natus Vincere. Na`Vi would maintain this roster till June 2011 when the release of Goblak and Axype and the joining of LighTohHeaveN and Puppey formed the line-up that would go on to become TI 2011 winner.

Dendi start with Na'Vi back in 2010 was a good one. In June 2011 Goblak and Axypa left the team and LighTohHeaveN and Puppey joined, around this time Valve's Dota 2 beta was beginning to to grab the attention of big teams and players when they announced The International in August 2011, where the winning team would be given 1 Million dollars.

Dota 2 Career

The International

The International was Dendi's first big win. Featuring a massive prize pool of $1,600,000 the tournament would determine the strongest team of the year and in 2011 that team was Na`Vi.[4]

Late 2011, Early 2012

In the months after The International Dendi had become a terrifying player to play against. Regarded as one of the best mid laners in Dota 2, Dendi's hero pool had grown to include picks like Windrunner and Invoker, the former feared almost as equally as his teammate's LighTofHeaveN. With a strong team behind Dendi, Na'Vi were the dominant team in the early stages of Dota 2 beta and one of the most successful Dota 2 teams to date. Their triumph at The International 2011 was followed by first places at ESWC 2011, The Defence #1, The Premiere League #1, Star Series #1 and several more leading up to The International 2012.

The International 2012

The second International brought 16 teams to Benaroya Hall where they would face off to win the grand prize of $1,000,000. Reigning champions Na'Vi were also invited and naturally arrived as one of the favourites for the event.[5]

The group stage didn't go too well for Na'Vi as they lost 2 games and drew another 2 in the first day.[6] They managed to recover on day two by winning three games in a row which was enough to qualify them for the upper bracket.

Once in the playoffs, Na'Vi went back to the familiar winning rhythm. They won their first play off round against Team DK 2:1 and moved on to face the winners of Group B iG.[7] Another 2:1 win for Na'Vi secured them position in the winners bracket final to play up against LGD.

The winners bracket final went the same way as the rest of Na'Vi's playoffs resulting in 2:1 victory and back-to-back TI grand finals for the Ukrainian team.[8] iG eventually emerged as Na`Vi's grand final opponents by beating LGD in the losers bracket and four games later they were successful in taking revenge on Na`Vi, denying them their second TI championship.[9]

Post International 2

After their defeat at the International 2012 Na'Vi continued to be a big team in Dota 2. The team went through more changes, dropping LighTofHeaveN and ARSART and replacing them with KuroKy and Funn1k, the former becoming the first western European to play for Na`Vi. With that new line-uo, Na'Vi bootcamped in China in June 2013 to prepared for the biggest event in Dota 2 history, The International 3.

The International 2013

The International 3 had the largest prize pool of any Dota 2 event to date with Valve putting in $1.6 mil and £2.65 from each compendium sales going into the overall prize pool. After the compendium sales closed, the first place prize had grown to near $1,700,000, making for the largest prize pool in eSports to date.

Na'Vi had a bit of a rough start dropping a couple of games but they ended at the top of their group with 11:3. Na'Vi's playoff stage began with a match against the Orange which they took 2:1. Their next match-up against TongFu was closer and Na`Vi had to rely on fountain hook in the deciding game to win the series. This victory won them a place in the Winners Bracket finals up against the almost undefeated Alliance. A 2:0 loss to the Swedes dropped Na`Vi down to the the loser bracket finals where they would play against again. Na'Vi repeated their success against the Malaysian team with 2:1 after one of the Orange players made a key mistake in denying an Aegis.

Climbing up to the grand finals, Na`Vi went on against Alliance to play a revenge match and make their third TI grand final in a row. In a five-game series, the Ukrainians were once again defeated, adding another silver medal to their 2012 one.

Along with the main event, Dendi also participated in the Solo 1v1 Championships where he was knocked out by Mushi in the Semi-finals. Dendi also participated in the All-Stars match where he got the chance to play against his Na`Vi captain Puppey.

Trivia

  • Dendi is known for his cheerful attitude and dances
  • Is one of the player with the biggest fanbases
  • Famous for his Pudge play, Dendi has almost unparalleled percentage of accurate hooks, which often decide team fights in Na`Vi's favor
